ipod connectivity problems

5/14 troubleshooting computer with problems connecting to ipod
Windows XP
error loading c:\windows\system32\lndrcasq.dll (googling brings up nothing)
loads Super AntiSpyware 4.15.1000 (which actually seems legitimate)

Windows Defender installed
can't check for definition updates
error found Code 0x80070422
try manual update
scan
got error message again

dl AdAware
reboot
scan

restore to April 30
cannot be restored
try May 1
cannot be restored

try msconfig
cannot be found

update Super AntiSpyware

5/16
found a whole bunch

still getting error loading dll message
try backup itunes to dvd-rw - not blank

try restore all the way to 2/16

find msconfig in c:\windows\pchealth\helpctr\binaries
deactivate lndrcasq

try restore to Feb 16, nope
Feb 18, nope
Feb 21, nope

uninstall
Windows Defender
Ad-Aware

back up songs to DVD (took 5 DVDs)

ipod charged on my computer, but still not recognized

uninstall AVG
uninstall superantispyware

beeped when I plugged it in
then got do not disconnect message (which stayed there)

try Arlene's computer
what do you know, it's detected and shows up as F: drive

Sun 5/17
install itunes on my computer
ipod still not showing up
suspect bad battery?
(meanwhile d/l and listen to Mad Money podcast)
Windows errors loading device driver

Mon 5/18
had it plugged into my computer
suddenly got a message that it was recognized and is charging
hours later, ipod is charged now, but Windows still doesn't see it
but plugged it into Arlene's computer and it's detected! hmm.
uninstall itunes on my computer, nope still not recognized
try system restore to May 16 - successful
reboot - get "the system has recovered from a serious error message" (again)
looks like a driver problem
try Dell Driver Reset Tool (as suggested by the message)
restart
nope, still not working
Add Hardware Wizard
Portable Device
Windows could not find the installer for WPD
try Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
got of list of installs and can't figure out what to clean up

restore to May 13
The system has recovered from a serious error again
(which tell me device driver is still screwy despite restoration)
message about updating usb drivers, but device (ipod) doesn't show in usb section of device manager

liutilities Apple Ipod USE Driver by jung
Uniblue driverscanner
detected three outdated drivers, but ipod driver not one of them

now ipod not recognized by Arlene's computer
wait it is, on second try
now it's not again :(

maybe the problem is with the ipod after all since the computer recognizes the flash drives which uses the same driver as the ipod (USBSTOR.SYS)

Wed 5/20
tried booting up into Ubuntu on Arlene's computer
but still no sign of the ipod
now the ipod looks dead again, though it's plugged into Arlene's computer

Thu 5/21
hey ipod connected this time (to the original computer)
then died
battery charging

Fri 5/22
ipod looks charged now and connected
don't know why. I did uninstall AVG and SuperAntiSypware and Ad Aware and Windows Defender
Installing Avast and will see if it still works
suspect something's wrong with ipod since battery seems to be dying too fast
